Ryan Villopoto wins Daytona Supercross by Honda! Ryan Dungey retains Supercross Series Championship points lead. Christophe Pourcel wins 250 East Lites Main Event, leads that series as well

It's a beautiful day here in Daytona Beach for Round 9 of the AMA Supercross Series. Sun shining, not a cloud in the sky, close to 70 degrees. During the evening, it can be expected to be a bit cooler, but it will be dry.

Daytona is different. It's non-stop action and racing for over a week - every discipline of racing you can think of. Of course, we preferential to Supercross. It's an entirely different atmosphere, track, crowd, and more compared to a 'normal' supercross. Ryan Dungey leads the Series, and, Chad Reed is back in action!

Daytona puts on what's called 'Bike Week'. It's something you have to experience if you've never been here! (You can watch Amanda give you a little taste of 'Bike Week' from yesterday here at this link.) It is way more than just motorcycling! And, the Daytona International Speedway continues to grow and improve - always adding new things, new features, even new buildings, to the enormous facility. Again, it's something you have to see to believe. DIS (Daytona International Speedway) is almost like it's own city - it's that big!

Back in action after a number of weeks off with an injured hand - multi-time Supercross Champion Chad Reed - he's back! Chad is not only back, but in the first practice session today Chad set the fastest lap time, just under 1 minute 3 seconds. Ryan Dungey has the second fastest qualifying lap to Reed.

In the 250 East Lites class, defending champion Christophe Pourcel had the quickest lap time - 1 minute 3 seconds!

As the riders are introduced to the crowd in opening ceremonies, Chad Reed tells the fans that he will not be racing tonight. He did ride well in practice, but decided before racing, he might need another week of practice to be able to race at full speed for entire motos.

250 East Heat 1 - Early leader is Darryn Durham. But Austin Stroupe took the lead on the third lap. And Stroupe held on to win.

250 East Heat 2 - Brett Metcalfe was the early leader, then Christophe Pourcel took the lead ... and eventually the win.

450 Supercross Heat 1 - Grant Langston leading the first few laps! He looked good - then he stalled his bike on lap three. Kyle Chisholm had the lead for a while ... but Ryan Dungey was charging, made the pass with just under two laps to go, and won this heat.

450 Supercross Heat 2 - Trey Canard was the early leader, followed by Josh Hill and Ryan Villopoto. They put on a good show, but eventually Ryan Villopoto showed his strength and experience, and went on to the win in this heat. Canard second, Hill third.

250 East Main Event - the early leader - Austin Stroupe! He's followed by Christophe Pourcel, and Blake Baggett! On lap six, Christophe Pourcel goes past Stroupe and into the lead! It's Pourcel, then Stroupe, and Blake Baggett, number 66 on a Suzuki.

At the ten lap point of this 15 lap main event, it's Christophe Pourcel leading, Austin Stroupe is about three seconds behind in 2nd place. Blake Baggett still running strong in third. And Dean Wilson is in fourth.

At the end of the race, it's Christophe Pourcel winning his third of three 250 Main Events of 2010 in the East! Austin Stroupe finishes second, and rookie Dean Wilson of Pro Circuit is third. Blake Baggett has a nice ride for fourth, and Justin Barcia finishes fifth.

450 Supercross Main Event - the lead goes to .... Ryan Villopoto ... but Grant Langston falls down ... and this race is red-flagged. Unfortunately, Grant was taken off the track on a stretcher. We'll keep you updated as soon as we find out anything regarding Grant. (News comes in later - Grant is OK, all body parts are moving, he's just got a sore back and neck.)

So, at 9:43pm, the 450 Supercross Main Event takes off (again)! The leader is Ryan Villopoto! Josh Hill is second, and third is Ryan Dungey. On lap three - Dungey passes Hill, moves into second. Meanwhile, Villopoto is looking good out front. At the five lap mark we have Villopoto leading, Dungey second, Hill third, and Trey Canard is running fourth. And then Trey Canard passes Josh Hill on lap seven.

At the halfway point, ten laps into this 20 lap moto, it's Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard, Davi Millsaps, Josh Hill, Kevin Windham, Nick Wey, Kyle Chisholm, Thomas Hahn, and Ryan Morais.

20 brutal laps at Daytona, and the winner is ... Ryan Villopoto! Ryan Dungey finishes second, and Trey Canard finishes third!

Dungey leads Villopoto in the points standings ( 192 to 172 ) as they head into round 10 of the series next weekend in Toronto, Canada!

Ryan Villopoto said "I got a great start .. a holeshot. The track was tough. I'm trying to play catch up. I like the track, it suited me well."
