Round 3 of the 2011 Women's AMA National Motocross Championships in Colorado! Jessica Patterson and Ashley Fiolek continue their battle for supremacy of WMX! Jessica Patterson has won both motos and the overal todayl. Ashley Fiolek finishes second in both motos, and retains series points lead.
Altitude is a big issue here at Thunder Valley MX. The track is well above 5000 feet in elevation, and taxes riders physically, and the motorcycles with power output (less oxygen means less horsepower).
In timed practice, Ashley Fiolek on the number 67 Honda was quickest at 2 minutes 31 seconds. Next was JP$ at 2 minutes 32 seconds. Then Tarah Gieger, Vicki Golden, Sayaka Kaneshiro, Sara Price, Jacqueline Strong, Kasie Creson, Mariana Balbi, and Lindsey Palmer round out the top ten of 31 competitors.
As the women line up for their first race here - it is very hot, and the track is getting a bit rutted and dried out. In the first moto, Jessica Patterson (JP$), the defending Women's National Motocross Champion, wins the 15 minute plus 1 lap (seven laps total) race. Ashley Fiolek finishes in the runner up position, with Vicki Golden third. Then it's S Price, T Gieger, J Strong, A Pearson, L Palmer, K Creson, and E Bash.
In the second moto, Ashley Fiolek was leading early on, but it's Jessica Patterson once again winning. This moto has Patterson first, Fiolek second, Tarah Geiger third, S Price, S Kaneshiro fifth.
