Bellpuig Spain

It had been 5 years since the last time I got a chance to visit Spain, so going into this GP I was really excited.

I took off out of LAX at 8:30 am on wed, and after a quick layover in New York I landed in Barcelona Spain on Thursday morning at around 10 am. After landing and getting my luggage, I checked in with the rental car company to get my weekend ride. Lucky me, I was upgraded to a BMW because that’s all they had left! Looked as if my weekend was starting off perfectly!

The hotel that I was staying in was a 2 hour drive from the airport, but I was having a blast driving in my little race car! After getting to the hotel I quickly learned that this was no ordinary hotel that I would be staying at. It would be a whole new European experience!

Let me take a second to explain to you the room that I would be staying in for the next 5 days. Its an 8 by 10 room with a small desk and a twin bed. The hotel didn’t have internet (which drove me crazy!) but I had a little tiny television with 5 Spanish channels to keep me entertained. It had a cute little bathroom with enough room to stretch your arms from one wall to the other. As I was trying to unpack, I quickly took a mental note that next year I would have to bring smaller bags! It was just right for me in Spain.

After checking in and getting familiar with the hotel and my room, I wanted to get familiar with the track, which was about a 10-minute drive. I got back into my racecar and sped off to the track. When I got there I was surprised by the activity that was going on for a Thursday. Teams were already setting up and getting ready for the weekend. I had heard this track was great for spectators and now I know why. You can see almost all of it at any vantage point. The Track is Clay and it reminds me a lot of Carlsbad Raceway, only it’s a bit faster with a bit more jumps.

I am defiantly looking forward to my first Spanish Grand Prix!

Keep an eye out on the site for some Video and Photos of this weekend!

My weekend in San Diego

The first Navy Moto X World Championships was held in the beautiful San Diego, California.

The weather could not have been better, it was in the 80s and sunny, with not a cloud in the sky! And the atmosphere was mellow and fun, it seemed as if everyone was there for the same reason… to soak up the sun, hang with friends, and see some amazing competition.

Over the weekend we saw 6 different disciplines compete for gold helmets.

Supercross
Supermoto
Step up
Freestyle
Best trick
Speed and Style

Speed and style is my new absolute favorite competition to watch. Two riders start side by side and dive into designated lanes-one lane was pure racing, the other included steel freestyle ramps. Upon conclusion of lap 1, riders swapped lanes. Each bracket was a four lap race. The scoring was 50 percent based on racing and 50 percent based on freestyle judging.

It reminded me of a video game. It was very fun to watch. And my friend Nate Adams ended up winning, so it was even better. =)

Moto X was held late Sunday afternoon; there was a lot of hype built up on Jason Lawrence and Travis Pastrana going into it.

It was exciting to watch because they ran the heats with 4 guys at a time, then took the top 2 and moved them to the finals, and the bottom 2 were sent to the last chance race where the top 2 guys would move on to the finals.. resulting in a 10 man main event! A bit different from our typical supercross race. Broc Hepler ended up winning and taking home the Gold Medal. Jason Lawrence ended up crashing in the first turn and pulling off the track and out of the race. Travis ended up finishing 5th.

After it was all over I was able to go get some interviews with some of the Gold Medelist! (or Gold Helmets)

Awesome weekend!!

Getting ready for a weekend of Moto X

Today I headed down to Qualcomm stadium to pick up my pass for this weekends Moto X World Championships in San Diego, CA.After meeting with the organizers (who where all really nice!)

I took a look around and got a chance to get a sneak peak of the tracks, for Supercross, Supermoto, and Freestyle. While walking the track I learned that the Supercross track runs over into the Freestyle coarse and visa versa, its pretty amazing, I can imagine how tough it would have been to design and build. It’s going to be a fun action packed event! I can’t Wait!
