Supercross is nice enough to grace us with so many weekends of action, drama, excitement, and oh yeah ... racing! But having them back to back sometimes makes you wish for a weekend off.... and this last weekend that's what we got!
Years ago, there were less supercross events. When Rick Johnson won, his 1986 Supercross Championship, I believe there were ten events.
The series might race one, two, three or four events in a row. But then they would have a week or two off. It allowed riders to rest their minds and bodies.
But the past few years, the series has basically run every weekend. Go go go! This past weekend was the first weekend off of the year. In a way ... it seems weird, because so many of us went thru 'supercross with-drawls'. Has it only been just one week off???
So, how about a recap of 2010 so far? In 450 Supercross, we have Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto the top two, with a large lead over third place. In the 250 East Supercross, we have Christophe Pourcel and Austin Stroupe battling for the championship there. And soon the 250 West series will start up again, which is being led by Jake Weimer, and chased by Trey Canard. With these three championships still to be decided, it should make every race until Vegas just as exciting as the first race in Anaheim.
Here is the funny thing though ... we all thought this season would be a James Stewert and Chad Reed battle for the Championship!! Think it will happen next year? Or while being injured will they lose a bit of what made them both Champions in the past. Will either of them ever see the Red number one plate on their bike again? No one knows for sure ...
OK, now, back to me ... it is my blog isn't it? : ) My weekend off was perfect! I started it off right with a visit to the Angels Stadium (where the Anaheim SX races are) to get a little Angels baseball action! It was the big pre-season game where they took on the the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Angels ended up winning in the 9th inning and I scored an Angels blanket! Not a bad Friday!
Saturday I ventured up to LA to the new W Hotel for the night. It was a celebration for the birthday(s) of two of my good friends. It was such a good turn out as it is every year. A few people you may know on the guest list? Donnie Emler Jr. from FMF, and Brian Barlow From FOX racing ... also Roland Sands from Roland Sands Designs. It wasn't an industry party, but thought id throw in a couple names. I may have seen James Stewert on the dance floor ... but not 100% sure.
Sunday of course was Easter and I was lucky enough to spend all day with people I love ... and we hid Easter eggs for the little kids to find .... and then later on everyone tries to eat their body weight in chocolate! (I succeeded!)
What a great weekend! But looking foward to a little more Supercross this coming weekend! And that brings me to Houston! Supercross! This weekend!

OK, perhaps you've heard - out of nowhere it seems, there is going to be a US Grand Prix of Motocross at Glen Helen Raceway, May 28 - 30th. I don't know how it came about, and especially so quickly, but it's a great opportunity for American fans to see the top GP riders in the world, such as World Motocross Champions Antonio Cairoli, Marvin Musquin, and upcoming World Championship racers Jeffrey Herlings, Ken Roczen, Max Nagl, Clement Desalle, and others.
And, the AMA National Motocross Series gets under way the weekend before that in Hangtown! It's a good time to be a fan of moto!
