How can you not love television? And, more importantly, cable and satellite television? I can not say that I spend much time watching ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox. If I turn on the TV, then I am watching ESPN, Speed, Fuel, History, Investigation Discovery, Palladia and VS. I really do not get to spend a lot of time watching TV, but I sure am glad that it is there. Especially since 1997, when RePlay TV first introduced DVR technology, and I first became able to digitally record and watch the races. As busy as I am I always make sure I watch the races. Because SPEED covers Supercross and Motocross by tape delay I usually watch them at my convenience rather than at 6pm on Sunday night. As Lee Corso might say - Not so fast, my friend!
Feld Motorsports unveiled the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross television schedule yesterday. Seven races will be aired live on Speed: Anaheim 1, Phoenix, San Diego, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Seattle and the Las Vegas season finale. That is more live coverage than Supercross has ever had. As great as all that is, live coverage is geared toward the person who is already a fan. There just is not much difference in live television coverage and tape delayed television coverage. The really big deal is that CBS will have nine hours of coverage during the 2011 season. It starts with a preview show the day after Christmas at 3pm EST. They also have two other specials airing: a Supercross Legends special that will air mid-season and a season wrap-up special that will air the day after the finale in Las Vegas. Six races will air on CBS in 2011: Los Angeles, Oakland, Houston, Dallas, St. Louis and Salt Lake City. That is a lot of great exposure for the sport.
Needless to say that since I live on the east coast I will be up late quite a few Saturday nights in 2011. It will also be a good excuse to invite a few friends over and introduce them to the wonderful world of Supercross! See you at the races!

On November 15th, Feld Motorsports announced that the Las Vegas Supercross Finale will serve as the final round for the East Region and West Region Supercross Lites championships. Each region will race their 15 lap Main Event and their champion crowned. After the champions receive their awards, the Lites guys will line up for two more races. The top 9 in each region’s Main Event will advance to the Davey Coombs, Sr. East/West Shootout. Before the gates drop on the traditional season-ending Lites race, a Last Chance Qualifier will be run to determine who gets the two final positions in the Main Event.
