How do I explain this one? Is it a supercross? Is it a motocross? Is it both? I think the real answer will be know once the event is complete, and everyone, especially the riders, give their opinion. After all, they are the ones that have to ride the track, and are also the ones that know best about what is supercross vs. motocross.

Supercross is generally mad made courses, with a lot of obstacles, built inside major stadium venues. It's really cool. You've got a reserved seat, can get food easily, see most if not all of the race track, ... very convenient for the fans.

Motocross is generally racing outdoors, on natural terrain tracks. It has (generally) more hills, off camber corners, and a bigger variation of dirt (sand, rocks, grass, etc).

This race coming October 15 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas is the first ever "Monster Energy Cup". It's being advertised as a hybrid Supercross / MX race. The track is designed to include both Supercross and Motocross style section, and, the two primary designers - Supercross "King" Jeremy McGrath, and the winningest rider in AMA Motocross and Supercross combined - Ricky Carmichael.

In looking at the track briefly, and watching the invited racers ride on it Thursday during the press conference, I'd say it's much closer to a supercross than a motocross. It's a man made course. It's inside a stadium venue. And the track looks like a supercross.

See Thursday's press conference Feature here.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what I think. I can say I'm very excited to see this event. Three main events! 1,000,000 on the line! And let's let the riders determine after they've raced if it's supercross and MX combined.

No matter what - it should be great. And there will be plenty of coverage of the event on Supercross.com http://www.supercross.com
