Yamaha president resigns after $2 billion loss Powersports Business Tuesday November 3, 2009
After a dramatic tumble in Yamaha’s revised earnings projections for the year ending in December, Yamaha Motor President Takashi Kajikawa left his position Nov. 1, though he will still be on Yamaha’s board of directors, according to a company press release.
Yamaha’s revised earnings projections estimated a consolidated net loss of approximately $2 billion, compared to the previous forecast of nearly $465 million.
Yamaha Motor’s Chairman Tsuneji Togami is now president. Togami, 63, was senior managing director before becoming chairman in March 2007. The post of chairman will be vacated after the reshuffle.
Faced with slumping demand for its products amid the economic downturn, the company will try to turn its operations around through the top management change, company officials said.

Try putting out bikes that we want an need, that are also affordable.
Oh yeah - the smokers were what we needed and were affordable - funny that.
I hate to say it, but those that started the trend are hurting the most.

It is like this 804 - more often than not those college educated 'experts' don't know bugger all about the real world. I could list a thousand examples and they would all have a similar vein - The marketing experts advise something completely different than what those that actually know the product/market advocate - they espouse the virtues of their way of thinking and proclaim that those who disagree are naieve or stuck in their ways. The product hits the market and guess what - it either sells for a while then falls away because it doesn't do things as well as the old one, or it fails completely.
Yup, there are successes, but the screw-ups far outnumber them.
Oh, as far as Walmart goes - people shop their because as a nation we buy on price rather than quality.

People can't afford to pay $7500 to $8k for a dirt bike. Plus Yamaha went from having the top 2-stokes to having so-so 4-strokes. This is the first of many things to come due to a bad economy. Yamaha already the best 125 two stroke. They could almost save themselves for making a 150 and sponsoring a rider to race it against the 4-strokes. The AMA and all the magazines would black ball it, but it would win.
I know, I need to come back down to reality.
