I restored a 1973 cr 250m years ago..every nut and bolt was buffed..I bought it in a big box..had mega hours into it...raced it a few times in a few vintage races..went through a divorce and the blister gave it away before I could get it out of there..

I had a neat experience about 5 years ago, with tons of help from my co-worker the both of us rebuilt a Kawasaki KZ900 that was used by the California Highway Patrol back in the mid 70's. This motorcycle was eventually donated to the Smithsonian Musuem in Washington D.C. where it will sit on display in the Transportation Exhibit for another 15 years. I know its no dirt bike but here are a few pictures of it.

Now that is the neat part about restoring some of these old scooters..."having to fabricate" Nice work there YZer. That KZ900 that I helped restore also needed some fabrication on our part. The bike didn't have the wiring harness and other items to allow the use of the emergency lighting system. We had to make up our own harness, bracketing and then wire in all the electrical components so it would work just like it did when it was in service.

Your ride there is a bit more technical in the wiring department for sure. I made things like handle bars, sifter, licence plate and brake light mount and a bunch of smaller parts. The foot clutch with a suicide hand shifter was fun to ride. No front brakes and an original mechanical rear drum was fun to stop. ebay was nice also found some good NOS parts to make it go. I want to build another one but the rigid rear about broke my back. My new project is this 55 caddy.
