At home in Mattighofen

Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:12

KTM is a unique company. They have had a meteoric rise in World Motocross, with MX1, MX2, and Women's World MX Championships by Tony Cairoli, Marvin Musquin, Ken Roczen, and Steffi Laier. And now they are embarking on achieving that same meteoric rise in America by joining former AMA Supercross and MX Champion Ryan Dungey, two-time World MX2 Champion Marvin Musquin, 2011 FIM MX2 World Motocross Champion Kenny Roczen, together with Team Manager Roger De Coster and crew. Their goal is to tackle the 2012 AMA Supercross Series Championship & AMA Motocross Championships in both the MX class, and Lites class.

With KTM's Ryan Dungey in the AMA Supercross points lead as the 2012 series enters Round 4 in Oakland, we thought it's a good time to share with you a little bit about KTM, and their 'home'.

The Three Coolest Things at The Kini Shop

Monday, 19 December 2011 17:25

Ever heard of Heinz Kinigadner? Many people call him "Kini". If there was a "King" of Austria, he might be it.

Heinz won two World Motocross Championships racing for KTM in the 80's. Since retiring from MX racing, he does many things - he runs the spinal cord injury research entity called Wings for Life, and started a race shop called "The Kini Shop" in Zillertal, Austria.

The Kini Shop is a KTM dealership, and much more! Here, Isabell, who really is the 'boss' at The Kini Shop (and Heinz' daughter), tells us the three coolest things about the shop! Isabell, like her dad, has a great personality, and lives life to the fullest.

Thanks Isabell!

Taking a Ride with Kini in the KTM X-Bow

Monday, 19 December 2011 17:01

I knew Heinz Kinigadner as a two-time World Motocross Champion, racing for KTM. But now I can say I know "Kini" as .... one of the craziest people on the face of the earth. And my good friend.

Yes, Heinz won the 250 MX GP title twice in the 80's. But he has done so much more ... like racing in the Dakar Rally to starting Wings for LIfe.

I was lucky enough to get to hang out with Heinz and his family one day at their shop - The Kini Shop, in Austria.

Heinz has a car - the KTM X-Bow. Why would I say Heinz is one of the craziest people on the face of the earth? Because he took me for a 'ride' in his 'car'.

The video does not do Heinz, or the X -Bow, or the ride itself justice. It's just something that someday maybe you'll be able to experience. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced in my life ... yet also the most exciting thing I've ever experienced in my life.

I learned something from Heinz - and that is a new attitude about life. How to live life. I jokingly say Heinz is one of the craziest people on the face of the earth, when in fact, he is one of the most level headed, clear thinking people I have ever met.

One of Heinz and his family's mottos in life and business is "Full Gas". They are definitely Full Gas.

I hope the video gives you just a small taste of my 'ride' with Heinz in the KTM X-Bow, but more importantly, I hope that someday you''ll be able to meet Heinz and his family. They are 'good' people.

Fun with KTM, Part 7 - Fermo Italy MX GP - Herlings get head shaved by Everts and Roczen

Sunday, 11 September 2011 13:26

KTM has had quite a successful run in the World Motocross Championships. So many world titles since they revamped their entire racing program a few years ago.

But they also are a 'family'. A great, big, happy family.

Today, after the last round of the GP series, round 15 in Fermo, Italy, they had a little presentation. You'll see that coming soon as a feature on Supercross.com

But here's just part - to show you what a nice, big, happy family they are : )

I'm not sure if someone lost a bet, or someone won a bet, or both. All I know is - Stefan Everts got to shave all the hair off of today's MX2 GP winner Jeffrey Herlings. And then Ken Roczen got involved in the 'shaving'.

It was quite a lot of fun, and it shows you what a big, happy, family team enviroment they have going on in Europe. Their goal is to reproduce the same in North America, with the same type of results.

Hopefully these photos will convey part of that story of today's 'celebratin'. And, as mentioned, there will be more later, including video.

Lex

It started with Stefan Everts shaving Jeffrey's hair. Something about a bet won. Or lost.

Then Ken Roczen, the new 250 MX2 World Motocross Champion, got involved in the shaving. Jeffrey, who won today's MX2 GP, was totally cool with it. Such a great team atmosphere ...

That is a lot of hair. On the ground. Jeffrey Herlings' hair : )

Jeffrey was a great sport about it ... and then he had a little fun with it ...

Viola! Jeffrey got 'new hair'!

Surprisingly, Steffi Laier, Womens' World Motocross Champion for KTM, made an appearance in Italy right after Jeffrey got his head shaved! : )
