Motocross of Nations 2009 - MX Success - Team USA wins - Italy hosts best event ever

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

Sunday, October 4 - Autodromo di Franciarcorta, Italy

Team USA wins 2009 Motocross of Nations. Success. And there were so many 'successes' in so many areas.

This event was so successful in so many ways. Of course, Team USA was successful - they won the most prestigous motocross event in the world. But also, the country of Italy was successful - they put on one of the best, if not the best race - ever.

So many 'successes' in so many ways. The infrastructure of the facility, Youthstream as the promoter, DBO as the organizer, FIM as the sanctioning body, the condition & maintenance of the track, the press areas ... and the fans.

Absolutely the fans were 'successful'. They made this into a very special event - over 90,000 people on hand during the entire weekend. The Italian crowd made this a day to remember - forever. They were not just fans. They wanted to be part of the story. They wanted to be involved. They wanted to participate. They wanted to make a difference. And they did!

We hope the photos and the video help tell the story ...

Today was Team USA's 20th time in winning the event, starting with their first victory back in 1981, at Lommel, Belgium.

Race 1 was the MX1 & MX2 classes.
World FIM Motocross World Champion and home country hero Tony Cairoli dominated, pleasing the Italian crowd. He was chased closely by AMA Motocross Champian Chad Reed to the finish.

Race 2 was MX2 & OPEN classes.
This race was won by French rider Gautier Paulin - on a 450. Ivan Tedesco ran second most of the race, but was passed by 2008 World Motocross Champion and Italian David Philippearts on the last lap.

Race 3 was the OPEN & MX1 classes.
It would determine which country would come away with the coveted Chamberlain Trophy. But it was partially an outcome marred by crashes. Two of them at the start - taking out Tony Cairoli entirely, along with Gautier Paulin, and a Finnish rider. Also involved in falling down were Clement Desalle and Chad Reed. Ryan Dungey put in the ride of his life, riding the #1 450 Suzuki. He won the race, anchoring Team USA's win.

Scoring in the 'Nations' takes the five best finishes out of the six total for each team. That means each team is able to throw out it's worst finish of the day.

Howdy y'all - we'll be adding as much content as possible. More photos and video to come. Amanda did a lot of things - she doesn't do the TV this year though for the GP's. But she did a lot! Hosted Team USA's press conferences, co-hosted the FIM Off Road banquet (we'll have video online later in the week), took photos, shot video, wrote articles. Amazing! smilies/smiley.gif
This is only luck for the american team..

Well, I know that luck is important in a sport like this, but...what a luck for Yankees! Cairoli, Guarneri, Paulin, Reed and Desalle fell down during the gp, the two Italian had even to retired! And I'd like to remember you that last year Stewart and company won only because Boissiere broke his tire...today the 4 nations that could won the Gp had only bad luck, and this is the reason because Yankees won.

MESSAGE FOR LEONARDO (ABOVE)

Only luck for the american team...My Ass! We nailed them SOBs! We've been doing it for 20 YEARS my friend! Yep, some riders fell, so what? That happens and it's called "racing."
And, BTW...last year Steward fell because he was going at like 100 MPH while toying with the whole field! (and I'm not a Steward fan). Boissiere, my ass!
The reason why we "The Yanks" win is because we have the best riders in the planet. After all, all them euros and what have ya come here to the US of A to race "the real" racers.
20 wins and counting, buddy! Why can you erous or whatever accept it. American riders started the trend back in 1981...Suck it up and viva USA!

It's called racing, but when ALL your main opponents fall down, this is luck. And I saw the the American team had been beeting everyone for years, but yesterday everayone watched that riders coming from France, Italy, Australia and also the Belgians are better than Yankees, you have plenty of riders, we have BETTER riders. That's the difference.
....Dude Leonardo

You need to wake up and accept reallity...Although it is true and I'm glad that euro riders have improved during all these years (it was about time), USA is still the capital of MX and SX. We have plenty of riders and better riders than Europe/Australia/New Zeland, etc, etc, to boot. Anyway, why do you think Reed won the AMA MX championship this year, man? Here's the answer...BECAUSE Villopoto, Alessi, Stewart, etc were not in it and/or were injured. Speaking of Villopoto...let me remind you that he has kicked EVERYONE's ass (euros included, of course)on a 250F! Really, you euros lucked out that in this year's MXoN we did not send our best riders like Villopoto, Alessi, or even Canard or Barcia; and Bubba elected not to go. However, our "Team B" still kicked your asses! Watch out now,...'cause as you saw, Dungey, showed to the world what he's got. Trust me buddy, we've got plenty of riders as of now AND we've got more coming! And, they're the BEST. I can't wait 'til next year's MXoN in Colorado. I'll be there in person to see how we kick y'all's asses again! Way to go US of A!
