I wanted to remind everyone of one the coolest and most rewarding "fun" races of the year,  A Day in the Dirt. It's right around the corner, taking place at LACR in Palmdale, California on Thanksgiving weekend. This year I will be at the event, but you will only find me trackside to make sure the Womens race, which goes down on Saturday, gets showcased here at MXGirls at Supercross.com.

The track layout is pretty sweet as you can see from the image below, and if you raced it last year (like I did) then get back on the entry list for 2009 because the track is going to be soooo fun!

If you are wondering why I am not racing it this year, its simple: I want to cover it better for MXGirls at Supercross.com, and ... I only have two knees and both have meniscus tears in them. And I will be cheering on my friends! Go Bridget Hill (first place last year in the womens intermediate class!) and Laurie Carey!!

Here I am having a BLAST at 'A Day in the Dirt' 2008, took 2nd place behind Bonnie Warch in the Womens 30+ Expert Class

This is the track layout for A Day in the Dirt 2009!

A couple of days ago I touched based with top female motocross racer and X Games 2008 Bronze Medalist Tatum Sik, so make sure you check out this quick little interview I did with her about what, when, why and how she is doing!

I always have one of our SoCal local riders on my mind because of her awesome engery and her infectous smile, not to mention, she does have one of the coolest names on the gate. Its been way to long since I've seen her in the headlines, so I reached out to Tatum Sik from for an update.

In 2008 Tatum had a great year - an invite to be part of the first-ever Womens Moto X at the X Games. And you could find Tatum racing at the AMA Women's National Motocross Series. Tatum was definitely on a high.

With this tremendous success, Tatum was gearing up for the 2009 race season .... but for some reason 2009 wasn't meant to happen as she wanted, and here is what Tatum has to say:

How would you best recap your 2009 WMX Outdoor National Season?

09 Outdoors was terrible! I went into the WMX Outdoors race series with a knee injury that progressively got worse with each moto. I had to re-look my race year and figure out how I was going to make something happen and heal up at the same time, so my plan went from going to all the WMX rounds to just getting through X Games.

You were looking awesome at XGames, ready to reclaim your position on the podium, what happened?

I was so bummed on X games! Supercross is my thing! I had almost everything dialed in on the track during our two practice rounds and my speed felt great as well as being really comfortable on the track. It all started with a bad start, the start killed it! And downhill from there! I had zero patience, I wanted my title back ... and it all ended when I did a really nice endo on a step up. The crash left me pretty beaten up, with some gnarly road-rash, as well as a broken wrist, collarbone, and dislocated shoulder.

alt

alt

alt
No Tatum was not in the Best Trick Contest. WMA Racers = Harcore

Are you healthy now? Are you back on the bike? Training?

Not healthy yet. I still have a few more weeks left, but I'm back in the gym and doing some rehab so I'll be healthy when I can start to ride again. I had full knee reconstruction surgery, so thats why I've been sitting on the couch forever! Haha!

alt

I think I saw you on a episode of Nitro Circus??

Yep. I was on Nitro Circus a while back but not sure what is goin' down in the future.

Plans for 2010?

2010 - Working on locking down sponsors, getting everything organized, so I can be fully prepared. I just wanna race as many local and WMX Outdoor Nationals as I can. Definitely X Games if they decide to invite me back, ... yes I have to be invited back to race. It's the real deal!

Oh ... and here is a follow up picture from my Halloween Festivities! I had a fun Halloween with my family! Kept it real and real fun! Here is my nephew Griffin aka Freddy Krueger trying to end Little Red Ridinghood's life! LOL - Goodtimes!

Happy Halloween, US Open Vegas http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2078-happy-halloween-us-open http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2078-happy-halloween-us-open By: Michele Johnson

Here I am again, running behind on my blog updates here on MXGirls at Supercross.com. I think that whole concept of time flys when you are having fun applies to my life.

So Halloween is today and I really hope you are all gearing up for a very spooky night on the town! Last night I went out with the girls, as seen below, but tonight I will be escorting Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street and a Gedi Storm Trooper through the streets of Murietta, California.

Happy Halloween to everyone!

Left to Right: Paris Davis, Michele Johnson and Amanda Hippe

I wanted to share a couple picture highlights from the US Open in Vegas..  I was able to make it to the TWMX Awards show, it seems everyone in the mx industry was in attendence. The awards show was awesome, Rockstar kicked it into high gear with a hosted bar and the right vibe!

We started out in a limo bus from the MGM over to the Hardrock Hotel.  This crew was definitely pumped on attending the awards show.

alt

Looking around our fancy limo bus, I noticed the Deft Family was representing; large and in charge. This crew is promoting and sharing the new product they are launching into the motorsports community, the Deft Gloves.  Nate Adams having a lil interview session with Chris Kinman from TWMX and in true entourage style you can see the men of the Deft Family in full support.

alt

Since I am one of the biggest fans of womens motocross and this is MXGirls at Supercross.com, I highly suggest you visit the www.DeftFamily.com website, you will notice that one of our own MXGirls Tara Gieger is part of the family! Very cool. I took my 3 favorite things I found on the Deft Family website and made a collage [so girly of me], below you see Gieger, really cool gloves and super model Janelle McGuire showing off a cool thread for the ladies..

alt

This blog would not be right if I was not able to locate a Professional MXGirl in Vegas to take a power picture pose with! So here I am with the one and only Kawasaki Monster WMA Professional Sara Price. Im sure everyone is aware that Sara rocked the 2009 WMX Outdoor Race season with a 4th place overall finish, not bad coming off the Amateur gate. Sara looked beautiful at the awards night, so I just had to snatch her up and take a picture with her.

alt

Im so bummed I didnt capture a picture of the awesome moment, but Im going to at least mention it. Vicki Golden took the 2009 WMA Rookie of the Year Award! Awesome accomplishment from a very talented rider! I am looking forward to watching her race in 2010. You can check out some more cool details on Vicki at CRFSTUFF.com

I ran into another very fun yet inspiring woman, Docy Andrews, President of Impact Video and creator of the Impact Xtremey Awards here in Southern California. Docy lives for the sport of motocross and offroad racing. She is a huge supporter of womens motocross and I just adore her. From left to right: Docy Andrews, Kasey Brancroft, Cherie Kobiske, myself and Docy's best friend, shame on me for not remember her name!

alt

Besides spending most the days checking out the action in the pits, watching the race, doing buisness and making sure the MGM pool was up to standards, I also made it a priority to visit the Sheckler Racing launch party, so we bounced on over to Club Blush for some festivities to launch Sheckler Racing into fortune 500 status!! Randy Sheckler hosted a premier party! Here is the only picture I could fine with Randy and I in it, I swear Im in there, my back is better than nothing!

alt

and to end the night and this blog, here is the cool red carpet picture with the 10 Designs girls, my friends Kasey Bancroft, Jeff Bell and Blake Morlet.

MXGirls: Phat and Fitness http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2016-phat-and-fitness http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2016-phat-and-fitness
I am 34, and a mother of two. If you are into the motocross scene like I am, then you are aware that this is basically the off season for women's motocross. I'm not saying their isn't any racing going on, because you can always find a race or series to participate in. I have found that many of the riders who just finished competing in the AMA Women's Motocross Series are now taking a break .... and getting ready to pack on a couple pounds.

Hmmmmmm ..... maybe not the best idea, especially for a competitive athlete. Maybe now is the perfect time to build on what you have achieved in 2009 and become the racing machine you dream of being for 2010!

I have become a tad bit obsessed with the idea of heath and fitness. If you are my friend on Facebook you may or may not be tired of my mood updates which pretty much consist of entirely work and fitness. Its true, I'm 100% Mom, 100% Work and 100% Heath and Fitness. At this point in my life I couldn't imagine it anything other way. BTW, I am enjoying my new friends I meet each month (aka 1 pack, 2 pack, 3 pack, .... I cant wait until I have met all 6 of them! : )I do want touch base on some awesome heath & fitness regiments that have really helped me shape myself into the (addicted : ) heath & fitness person I am today. Before I get into that, I do want to share with you my reason for V-lining directly to my new addiction. I have been riding / racing MX for the past 15 years, and 5 years ago I had my first son (Talon) and then two years ago I had my daughter (Savy). Of course - all life changing as a woman!

I'm now a Mom, priorities change and so did my passion for being on the bike so many days each week. I battled with what I would call a slight depression .... should I continue riding or park the bikes?

In May of 2009, a new feeling came over me and I was OK with moving into a new sport. Don't get me wrong, I'm still ready to ride and I haven't parked my dirtbikes! I'm just OK with being a 'recreational' rider, and being a Mom comes first. And in moving forward in life, fitness, the gym, working out, has become my 'new' sport.Having fitness be my new sport of choice was not easy. It's not the same as getting on my MX bikes, railing a few corners, hitting a few jumps, and then call it a day. No no no! Having fitness as my new sport is a new way of life for me.

With fitness comes improved health and with improved health comes a whole new lifestyle. And that my friends is where I am at today. My goal here will be to add some fitness info though out my regular blogging schedule here at MXGirls. Today I wanted to share with you what I feel is the most important beginning to setting yourself to be a fitness & health addict like myself. Because I have a big handful of friends who are so lazy they feel like they are hitting rock bottom, I decided to share my findings with them, which now I am sharing with you.Women have an excuse for everything when it comes to health and fitness, don't we? I work too much, ... I have to focus on my kids, ... I have to focus on my husband/boyfriend, ... I just need a nap, ... I don't need to work out because I'm young, .... I'm naturally thin, ... I'm bloated, ... it's that time of the month, so on and so on and so on. Trust me, I am guilty of it too, (except the naturally thin stuff) so here is my advice:

Lets get our priorities straight and start feeding our body the necessary supplements it needs to perform in a healthy manner. Lets get our vitamins straight!

Yes, its similar to going to Detox to become healthy, and I promise it sucks booty. Imagine a month of "commitment", ... but lets just start week by week, and with your vitamins and water intake. It will make a difference just starting with that, and then it will be easier for you to focus on your fitness routine. Also, these vitamins I am going to suggest will take away all your fun monthly 'PMS' symptoms.

Between you and I, PMS symptoms are the most common excuse I had to be lazy and eat crappy almost 2 weeks out of the month. Making sure your vitamin intake is on schedule will help your body fight off many PMS symptoms.

Here is my disclaimer. I'm not a doctor. You should always consult your doctor for your needs. But I want to share with you what is working for me: (It is about a $70 - $100 investment every 3 months)

-Vitamin D 800 IU per day
-Calcium / ZINC / Magnesium 1000 mg per day
-Slow Release Iron 45.5 mg
-Womans Daily or Centrum Daily Multivitamin (The reason I feel you should also have a daily multivitamin is because our body only retains a certain amount of the vitamin we are putting in.)
-Natures EFA made by Nu-Tek - Omega 3, 6, & 9 w/ Sesamin
-Monavie 1-cup a day fruits/fiber
-32 oz Water – At least !!

I thought I would check with my buddy Elizabeth Bash who won the Bronze at XGames this year, and ask her what her fitness and riding regiment was like ... here is what she told me:

Monday - Spin bike, some push ups and sit ups. I do a lot of things that don't involve weights
Tuesday -  Ride MX, swim in the afternoon
Wednesday - Ride MX, swim or go for a long walk
Thursday - Ride MX, work on my bike
Friday - Spin bike, push ups, sit ups.

------------------

Well, I hope you head off to store and finish off 2009 with your vitamins in check and get ready to join me in my health and fitness revolution!

p.s. Remember - always consult your doctor before doing anything regarding your health, nutrition, and any changes you might be considering. It's the best thing to do!

MXGirls Blog, Bye 2009 WMX, Ride for the Cure, Makes MJ Smile http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2003-mxgirls-blog-september-17-2009 http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/2003-mxgirls-blog-september-17-2009
It’s been awhile since my last article, so I figured I would jump in here and give you some scoop on the important stuff ...

Women’s Motocross Rocks!

We all know that the Women’s Motocross season has come to an end, the racing was awesome and extremely competitive. Ashley Fiolek was crowned AMA Women's Motocross Champion of 2009, Jessica Patterson took second place, and Sherri Cruse locked in third place overall for the season! (You can see their Rider Profiles here.)

I was very impressed with how driven Jessica Patterson was to regain her top position on the circuit. She got stronger as the season went on! And Ashley Fiolek kept her drive up, showing how intense and passionate she is by finishing her last race of the year with a broken collarbone! Those two have a lot of experience .... and I think some of the 'rookies' that came into the series had a rude awakening as to how extremely competitive the pro class is, but it also gives them something to shoot for and improve upon and train towards - improving in 2010! Sara Price is a good example - she stayed consistent and I am sure she is going to arrive in 2010 with vengeance for a top 3 Championship finish.

3rd Annual 'Ride for the Cure', October 3rd, 2009 in Anza, California.

Super important. An up and coming event I feel is worthy of worldwide exposure! I will be in attendance and I will be doing some laps on my KTM Dirt Scooter! Looking forward to getting out and supporting this event! I do expect to see you there. You can come stop by and get my autograph! Ha-ha-ha Just kidding!

Here are the details on the Ride for the Cure: Rynoland Motocross Facility will be hosting the 3rd Annual Ride for the Cure October 3rd 2009 in Anza, California. The event will include motocross open practice, food, games, prizes, music, and a raffle. All the money raised will go directly to our local breast cancer resource center, Michelle’s Place http://www.michellesplace.org

We are hoping that you will show your support for this cause and attend the event in any way possible - rider, spectator, or even a vendor. The vending fee is only $50 for the day (Friday night set-up OK). 100% of all vending fees will be donated.

Even if you cannot attend, you can help by donating some raffle items. The raffle is always greatly anticipated by attendees and it gives you an opportunity to showcase some products. For further information, feel free to contact Laurie Cary, e-mail laurie@panicrev.org

For information on event http://www.rynoland.com/

Stuff that makes me smile!

I’ve decided during the women’s motocross downtime I will thrill you with my favorite find on the women’s actions sports product scene, I will try to focus on the companies focused on women like myself … but, just in case I find something super amazing, just want to give you a heads up, I may travel outside the boundaries of women’s motocross. If you have a product you would like to share with me to be featured on my blog, please email me at Michele@supercross.com

MotoCandy.com

I have personally been thrilled by the MotoCandy.com Clothing line, so thrilled I am now sporting the MotoCandy Logo Sticker on the back of my ride.

I felt it was necessary to lock down the specs on MotoCandy, so I shot off a couple questions to the creator of MotoCandy, Gina Downey out of San Diego, California, but I got her out of office reply. I think she is on lock down creating the 2010 MotoCandy line, so I wont bug her. Instead I will give you my personal description of a MotoCandy Girl.

Confident. Sexy. Dare Devil. In Control, OK enough from my head, here is what the website says "Girls that are into moto-sports are on the edgy side that's for sure. But the fact remains that they are GIRLS."

So, if you have any style-sense, you appreciate good quality, attention grabbing, self labeling clothing and you are a MotoCandy at heart, I would assume that your next purchase is going to be directly from MotoCandy.com. I will also be sporting my MotoCandy wear at the 3rd Annual Ride for the Cure October 3rd 2009 in Anza, California at Rynoland on October 3, 2009. MotoCandy is one of the companies donating to the cause, you better get your bootie out to Rynoland to make a bid on the MotoCandy basket and save some boobies!

Here I am [Michele Johnson] , working from the home office with my MotoCandy Tank on.
I guess I can say this blog was powered by MotoCandy.com

And, let's not forget the recently wrapped up 2009 FIM Women's World Motocross Championship - the new world motocross champion? Steffi Laier from Germany! You can see her Rider Profile here

Thanks!

I showed up at XGames this morning on Thursday, July 30th. Parking was already packed, credentials are on lock down, please don't email, text or call, I have zero powers! Ha-ha

When I walked into the Home Depot Center the women's motocross -moto x practice was in play. The girls on the track looked good, they were definitely taking their time getting to know the layout. Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson were hucking the huge table top in no time!

I saw Miki Keller at the entrance to the track watching her girls in action. Definitely a fan of Miki's passion and commitment to make women's motocross part of the XGames. Still blown away by her achievement.

I am now sitting at a booth in the Group Y Action Sports Conference, here is the current panel speaking:

So basically, lets sum it up to a lot of respect goes out to the men who live, breath and die for our country. I have a new love for these men, all of them, unsung heroes.

Sam is chomping into the local grind at the meat market in Downtown Iraq.

To many of you, Wee Man would be your hero. To me, my Brother in Law Kip Keune is my hero. He has given many years to the freedom of our country and now he is giving back to the soldiers who are walking in his steps.

From Riverside to Downtown Iraq in 2.5 hours ....

What's happening in the MXGirls World! June 7! http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/1730-whats-happening-in-the-mxgirls-world-june-7 http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/1730-whats-happening-in-the-mxgirls-world-june-7 A couple of big things happened this week in the women's world of motocross. On Saturday, the sixth, it was the AMA / WMA Women's National Motocross in Wortham TX!

And the next day, Sunday, the seventh, it was the French Grand Prix of Motocross for Women on the FIM World Motocross Series!

Let's start with the AMA / WMA Women's National Motocross - Round 3, in Wortham TX!

Ashley Fiolek is on a mission to sweep the WMA Series and she is going a fine job of it! Three out of three impressive wins and she is only looking stronger and her confidence is building!

One of my heroes, and Pro rookie Vicki Golden is making sure she is making me proud - she stays on that podium with a 3rd place finish! Go Vicki!

And, on the other side of the world the women of the FIM World Motocross Series are racing as well!

The current Women's World Motocross Champion, and the current points leader, and the winner of her 'hometown' MXGP in France? Livia Lancelot! I don't want to say she hauls @#$, but she hauls @#$! She is FAST!

Glen Helen - Round 1 AMA/WMA Race Report http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/1698-glen-helen-wma-race-report- http://www.supercross.com/mxgirls-blog/1698-glen-helen-wma-race-report- AMA / WMA Women's National Motocross - Round 1 - Glen Helen Moto 1 Results posted. Ashley Fiolek started off strong, stepping right back into the lead with a 1st place finish for Moto 1. From AM ranks to Rookie Pro Sara Price with a impressive 2nd place finish and seasoned racer Jessica Patterson taking the 3rd spot, showing the 2007 WMA Champion still has what it takes.

Here is the direct link to the COMPELTE results page with photos as well ...

Moto 1
Ashley Fiolek 1st
Sara Price 2nd
Jessica Patterson 3rd

I sent a text to my friend Dan McGranahan, owner of Icon 1 Agency, I asked him to tell me something cool about the women's moto 1 pro race. His text back was three words "Ashley is Cool" .. .lol ... go figure!! We all know that!!

I am soooo impressed to see Amateur now Pro Rookie Sara Price, gave the class a beating and took the 2nd place spot ... Just insane!! The girl is driven, she trains hard and she is a force to be wreaken with .

I just saw Jessica Patterson at MotoBowl the other night, told her I was banking on her to stay on that podium and so far, so good! Taking the 3rd spot isnt to shabby! Ive always been a Patterson fan!

Vanessa Florentino was one of the top contenders for this race, she was flying during practice and for some reason she ended Moto 1 with a DNS. I will get the story on what happen .. We also have a DNS for Vanessa for Moto 2. I need to catch up with her and see what is going on! Stay posted!!

My "MOST STOKED" emotion goes to our own Southern California local Vicki Golden, this girl is our local speedy gonzolas! Vicki flys and looks good doing it! I know if Vicki had more product and $$ support she would be spending many weekends on the podium. She is extremely talented and such a fun girl !! Congrats Vicki !!!

Moto 2
Ashley Fiolek 1st
Jessica Patterson 2nd
Sherri Cruise 3rd

Looks like Ashley Fiolek took home the crown out at Glen Helen today! Definitely a crowd pleaser if you ask me! Ashley is loved by all and the hero of many. Looking forward to see her battle it out at Round 1 in Hangtown next weekend!

Jessica Patterson buckled down and pulled herself into the 2nd place spot, which is only means that next weekend its "game on" for Jessica and Ashley ...

X-Games Silver Winner Sherri Cruise landed on the podium in the 3rd spot.
