Canelinha, Brazil

It was final Grand Prix of the year, as the series made it's way back to Brazil after a ten year absence.

In MX1, Antonio Cairoli had already clinched the 2009 World MX1 Motocross Title. But there was still plenty of action in MX1, as only 14 points separated 3rd place Philippaerts to 6th place Coppins, with Desalle and de Dycker in between, before this weekend!

As you can see, Belgian sensation Clement Desalle won the MX1 Grand Prix. This young rider has come on strong in the second half of the season, and will be riding for the Teka Suzuki Team next season, along with former World Motocross Champion Steve Ramon - who finished second overall today in Brazil. Desalle passed 2008 MX1 World Motocross Champion David Philippaerts for third position in the final season standings.

All eyes were really on the MX2 class, as Marvin Musquin from France, and KTM team-mate Rui Goncalves from Portugal would determine who would become the 2009 MX2 World Motocross Championship.

And Musquin won the MX2 World Motocross Championship title today in tremendous fashion - winning both motos! Second overall today, and fifth in the final season standings - teenage sensation from Germany - Ken Roczen.

Congratulations Marvin Musquin - 2009 MX2 World Motocross Champion!

Interesting note: Mariana Balbi become the first woman to ever qualify to race in an MX1 Grand Prix, and finished 24th! (She's number 66 below in the photos.)

The next 'big' event will be the 'Team World Motocross Championships', aka The Motocross of Nations, in Italy, on October 3 and 4.

Lierop, Holland

Antonio Cairoli wins 2009 MX1 World Motocross Championship title today, while Ken De Dycker & Marvin Musquin each won their respective Grand Prix events ...

MX1 Grand Prix: The Braun Grand Prix of The Netherlands sees Tony Cairoli winning his first ever MX1 World Motocross Championship, despite a damaged left knee.

Ken De Dycker went on to dominate both motos and take the overall, with Josh Coppins and Clement Desalle completing the podium. Max Nagl crashed in heat one and decided to ride safe in heat two to at least build on his second place in the Championship point standings.

Yamaha Red Bull De Carli’s Cairoli wrapped up his third World Championship Title in Lierop despite a left knee issue that made it a tough outing for the Italian. Cairoli rode two brave races, finishing fifth in heat one after a mistake, and fourth in heat two. Once he snatched fourth from Nagl in the final heat, Cairoli had the World Motocross Championship Title under his belt courtesy of a 50 point advantage in the Championship standings, though he tried to move past Desalle as well.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Nagl struggled as he crashed in heat one while he was holding third. The German took eighth eventually, but despite the holeshot in heat two he just rode to build on his runner up spot in the Championship.

Pole man De Dycker dominated both motos by taking two first places. The Teka Suzuki World MX1 man grabbed his second season’s win ahead of Yamaha Monster Energy rider Josh Coppins, who had a dogfight with Desalle to take an eventual second in heat two.

Desalle completed the podium, but several crashes in the opening heat left the LS Motors Honda rider disappointed to have lost valuable Championship points.

Jonathan Barragan, who will be riding for Kawasaki in 2010, was 13th at his comeback race after being out for a long time. Last year’s Lierop winner Marc De Reuver returned to action too, he finished 16th.

Ken De Dycker said: I was having so much fun out there and it really helped me. It was not so easy because the track was so demanding and coming up to lapped riders I really had to concentrate. Sometimes I could look around and saw a lot of people cheering so I was waving to them when I could, it was a really nice experience. This was not a simple GP so I am really pleased with the result.

MX2 Grand Prix: The Title quest remains open in the MX2 class even if series points leader Marvin Musquin took today’s overall victory ahead of his main rival in the Championship point chase - Rui Goncalves. Rui was second overall in today's GP. Ken Roczen completed the podium in third. Gautier Paulin finished 20th (broken engine in heat 1), and lost his chance to fight for the Title in the final round in Brazil.

Goncalves went on to win moto one while Musquin took second. The Frenchman, who went down in the opening lap, was handed second as Joel Roelants crashed as well. The Belgian of the KTM Factory Junior MX2 Team was an eventual third ahead of young gun Roczen.

The latter took the holeshot in moto two, but let Goncalves and Musquin go ahead from lap two. Musquin grabbed the lead and pulled away while Goncalves crashed twice, struggling with a damaged right shoulder. Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Roczen snatched second from a troubled Goncalves and made it to third on the podium.

The 2009 MX2 World Motocross title will be decided in Brazil at the final round between Musquin and Goncalves.

In Saturday's MX2 Qualification heat, it was Marvin Musquin, riding for KTM, winning. 1. Marvin Musquin, 2. Ken Roczen, 3. Nic Aubin, 4. S. Frossard, 5. R. Goncalves, 6. L Larrieu, 7. V. Teillet, 8. X. Boog, 9. S. Sword, 10. Manuel Monni, 11. Zach Osborne.

in Saturday's MX1 Qualifying, it was Clement Desalle winning. 1. Clement Desalle, 2. Max Nagl, 3. Tanel Leok, 4. Julien Bill, 5. Greg Aranda, 6. G. Swanepoel, 7. David Philippaerts, 8. Ken de Dycker, 9. Tony Cairoli, 10. Manuel Priem, 11. Steve Ramon

In the Grand Prix on Sunday, in MX1, it was 'sensation' Clement Desalle winning his first ever Grand Prix! He looked strong, smooth, and confident. He is leaving the LS Honda team at the end of the year. Rumor has it he will join the Teka Suzuki team. Max Nagl won the first moto, finished fourth in the second, for second overall on the day. Third overall went to defending MX1 World Motocross Champion, David Philippaerts.

In MX2, Gautier Paulin returned to the top of the podium with the overall win!

Gautier finished fourth in the first heat. But came on strong and won the second heat. Second overall went to the consistent Rui Goncalves - he had two thirds to score that second overall position.

Third place went to Xavier Boog, riding for Suzuki. Xavier recently had his appendix removed!

'Sensation' Ken Roczen did win the first MX2 moto. In the second moto, he had a bad start, and finished ninth in the moto, but scored fourth overall on the day.

Heart break for Marvin Musquin - the MX2 Motocross points leader. He finished second in the first moto behind Ken Roczen. But in the second moto, while in a good position to secure the overall Grand Prix victory - he stopped on the side of the track - bike problems. It was a long, sorrowful walk for him back to his pit area.

The town of Loket is a small town ... mostly known for it's castle. The entire area can be best described as an 'Enchanted Forest'. It's stunning. Beautiful.

Up the hill, above the town, is the race track, deep in the forest. It winds back and forth over hills and valleys - a very 'serpentine' track, In fact, that is the name of the track! The event is put on by the Automoto Klub Loket, and the circuit is called 'Loketske serpetiny'.

If you like motocross, and like to travel, Loket is the place for you. It's truly an enchanted place for a motocross, and a wonderful lifetime experience.

The next round of the FIM World Motocross Championship is August 29 & 30 in Lierop, Netherlands

Lommel, Belgium

MX2: Marvin Musquin, the KTM rider from France, is looking to put a strangle-hold on the 2009 MX2 World Motocross Championship Series. As the season heads towards it's conclusion with only a few rounds left, Marvin put his stamp on the series to date, sweeping both motos today in the wet and sandy conditions of Lommel, Belgium. Marvin is the 'real deal'. Fast. Confident. Smooth. Smart. Rui Goncalves moved into second position in the championship point standings.

MX1: In the premiere MX1 class, it was 'home town' rider Ken de Dycker winning his 'home' GP, with a first in heat 1, and and third in heat 2. Max Nagl took second overall today, with a sixth in the first moto, and winning the second moto! And Championship points leader, Tony Cairoli, who just a day earlier unveiled his 2010 plans to be with KTM, finished third overall on his Yamaha.

Steve Ramon, the likeable Belgian and former World Motocross Champion did quite well on his return to Grand Prix racing, especially after a layoff of some months, and returning on the brutal sand track here in Lommel. He finished fourth overall.

This was Ken de Dycker first Grand Prix win of the season, and this quote from Ken comes courtesy of Suzuki:

"This is a hard Grand Prix so for sure I am really happy to win. I have not had many good GPs this season so it is nice to finally enjoy one. The first moto was decent but the second was not perfect Overall of course this is the result that we wanted and with three races to go I want to get in the top three of the championship. I think it is possible if I keep giving my best all the times right until, the end."

Uddevalla, Sweden

It's the eleventh round of the 2009 World Motocross Championships - the Swedish Grand Prix! Uddevalla is a pretty, tree-laden area in the lake district of Sweden, near their western coast.

In MX1, it was Germany's Max Nagl, on the KTM 450, winning the overall today. But series points leader Antonio Cairoli finished second, and with four rounds remaining in the World Motocross Championships, is in an excellent position right now as he leads the points chase by 53 over Nagl.

In MX2, it's was another KTM rider on top - Rui Goncalves! And rookie motocross sensation Ken Roczen finished second overall, proving himself as no fluke - even though he's only 15 years old!

One strange thing - MX2 World Motocross Series points leader Marvin Musquin is not racing. We don't fully know the reason's why, but believe it has something to do with contract issues regarding him, his former team (Honda-related) and the bikes he has been riding recently (KTM). We hope to receive the full information so that we are able to communicate it to you.

The next round of the FIM World Motocross Champion is the first weekend in August - the Belgian Grand Prix.

15 year old rookie sensation, and youngest Motocross Grand Prix winner ever last weekend in Germany - Ken Roczen Interview
By Geoff Meyer /
MXLarge.com

Ken Roczen did something very amazing last weekend. The 15 year old German rider captured not only his first ever Grand Prix victory, but also his debut home GP win. The Teka Suzuki Europe World rider was so cool and collected about his victory and the way he did not even push for the second moto win and just cruised for a safe second place was very, very smart from the teenager.

Five time World 500cc Champion Joel Smets of Belgium told me yesterday evening that Roczen might just be the most complete rider the sport has seen in Europe in a long time and former multi-time World Motocross Champion Eric Geboers (from Belgium) had mentioned a couple of years ago that Roczen was the European version of Ricky Carmichael.

Last weekend the two Belgian legends stood on the sidelines and were amazed at the improvement this kid can produce time and time again. We sat down with Ken and asked him a few questions, and here they are:

MXlarge: Ken, that was just amazing. You really looked experienced out there. How did it feel to win you first ever GP?

Roczen: I was hoping for it, but my first goal was to be on the podium, I don't care if it was first, second or third, but now it was first, so that is amazing.

MXlarge: Youngest Grand Prix winner in the history of the sport, that is pretty impressive.

Roczen: They told me that after the podium, but I forgot it quickly, I don't think about that stuff. The crowd was crazy, I heard them every lap and they cheered me on and gave me great motivation.

MXlarge: Tell us about your first moto?

Roczen: The first race I didn't have a good start, out of the start I wasn't good for my the whole weekend, but this time maybe my rut was a little too soft, then I came back to third place and Marvin (Musquin) crashed and I saw that I was second, and then I could close up a bit to Steven (Frossard), but the first race second place was okay.

MXlarge: And the second moto you looked strong, but didn't really push all the way did you?

Roczen: The second moto my start was better, I was third and I passed Rui (Goncalves) pretty quickly for second and I had a big fight with Marvin. I got a second place and first overall, what more could you want. I raced with him before, but I had never been in a fight with him like that. He is riding really hard, but so am I, we didn't touch each other and when I was first he passed me I said that is okay, I don't know if he wanted to block me and I didn't want to crash so I took second place and was happy with that and the overall.

MXlarge: So quickly a Grand Prix victory, how can you top this now?

Roczen: It is going to be hard to get two wins, but I don't expect anything. I just want to ride and have fun and see what I can do. Today was really nice for me, I am happy for my team and the fans, it's been a really good weekend and now we head to Latvia and see what happens there.

Teutschenthal - Talkessel Circuit

It's the German Grand Prix of Motocross! And the MX1 win belongs to the World Motocross Championship points leader - Mr. Tony Cairoli!

Max Nagl is the 'hometown' favorite here in Germany, and he rode strong after an early season wrist injury - he finished second overall today. And Suzuki's Ken de Dycker has regained his form as well, finishing third overall.

Supercross.com will have Tony Cairoli's own words about the race coming tomorrow in his column.

In MX2, another 'hometown' favorite has got to be Ken
Roczen. Surprisingly, it's been reported that Ken is only 15 years old! And his first MX2 Motocross Grand Prix was a few days after he turned 15 years of age - the GP of Portugal earlier this season. Ken won the MX2 Motocross Grand Prix of Germany today! He is the youngest winner ever of a Motocross Grand Prix! And Marvin Musquin maintains his championship points lead as the series head to it's next event - the Latvian Grand Prix of Motocross - next weekend!

Ken Roczen said "I don't know what to say; this is amazing for me. After my first two GPs I saw that the podium was possible. I always do my best and I hoped for a podium here, with a bit of luck, but didn't expect the win. Musquin was going fast but I thought I could pass him. Towards the end I knew that second place would give the overall so I rode safe. All the attention has come quickly and it isn't always easy to give people what they want but I try to do what I can!"

In other news here from Germany, the 2013 Motocross of Nations will be right here! (You can read the story at this link)

Ernee - Raymond Deny Circuit

The country of France is known for it's big motocross following. The crowd, as always in France, was massive.

In the MX1 Grand Prix, it was Max Nagl riding for KTM back to form, winning both motos today. And in MX2, it was series points leader Marvin Musquin sweeping both motos and extending his points lead.

Back to MX1, Antonio Cairoli is still the points leader - he finished third overall today. And World Motocross Champion David Philippaerts finished second overall today, and is in second position in the points chase behind Cairoli. Former World Motocross Champion and 'hometown' rider Mickael Pichon raced again for Honda, finishing seventh overall.

Saturday's MX1 qualifying moto saw David Philippaerts, the current MX1 World Motocross Champion, winning the qualifier. And former World Motocross Champion Mickael Pichon, out of retirement, finishes second in the qualifier. MX1 points leader Antonio Cairoli had a fall, and it wasn't even sure he'd be able to race today. He did, getting eighth overall, and still maintains his points lead.

In the Grand Prix today, it seems as if World Motocross Champion Champion David Philippaerts has regained his championship winning form of last season.

In MX2, it was all Marvin Musquin, as he won both motos on his KTM, and extends his championship points lead.

Spanish rider Jonathan Barragan, riding for KTM, did not disappoint his home town fans today, winning the MX1 Grand Prix of Spain. And defending World Motocross Champion David Philippaerts put in a great ride, finishing second overall, even though he's racing with a broken index finger. Antonio Cairoli maintains his series points lead, as he finished third overall today. He leads Barragan by 36 points. Series challenger Ken de Dycker had an off day, with finishes of DNF/6.

In MX2, it was a topsy-turvy day for the main players. Belgium KTM rider Jeremy van Horebeek won the overall, with Rui Goncalves second. But at the top of the points standings, Gautier Paulin had a rough day, with two 16th place finishes. That allowed Marvin Musquin to now take over the points lead! Musquin now leads Paulin by threee points, with Guarneri and Goncalves closing the gap! Note: American Zach Osborne has not scored any points in the last four motos.

Today was Jeremy's first ever Grand Prix motocross win! Jeremy said "I am just so happy to get the win today. The KTM Factory Junior Team have done a great job and we made some changes to the engine on my bike which suits my riding style much better and now I feel really comfortable on the bike. I had a great start to the season with a podium in Faenza but then I had to miss the Turkish GP with a shoulder injury. I tried to make up for the lost time on the bike by increasing my physical training and my good base in the winter has helped me prove today that I have the speed and ability to win GP's. I am just going to take each race one at a time and do my best to get back on the podium again."

It's also the third round of the FIM Women's World Motocross Championship this weekend!
