Ricky Carmichael's Biography

He currently lives in Tallahassee, Florida, is married to his wife Ursula, and together they have two children (twins!).

Simply put, Ricky Carmichael is the greatest ride in the history of the sport - ever!

RC started his professional career late in the 1996 season. 1997 was his first full year of professional racing, and he rode for the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team, winning the AMA 125 National Championship. He did that for the next two years as well. In 2000, he moved up to the 250 class and rode for Team Kawasaki. His first year he won the 250 AMA National Motocross Championship for them, and in 2001 he won both the AMA Supercross Series and the AMA National Motocross Championship Series.

In 2002, in what at the time was considered somewhat of a shock, he switched to the Honda team. Ricky won championships for Honda in 2002, 2003, (in 2002 and 2003 he won both the AMA Supercross and AMA National Motocross Championships!) and 2004.

In another somewhat shocking move, Ricky joined with Team Suzuki for 2005 ... and continued his winning ways. In 2005 and 2006, he won yet again both the AMA Supercross Series, and the AMA National Motocross Series.

Ricky retired from full time professional motocross racing at the end of the 2006 season. Ricky is now pursuing a career in car racing.

Two other amazing facts about Ricky:

  1. He is the only person in history to have an 'undefeated season', winning every moto (24!) of the 2002 AMA National Motocross Series, riding a Honda 250 two-stroke . He did it again in 2004, riding a Honda 450 four-stroke.
  2. Ricky won at least one championship every season he raced full time - 10 years in a row!

Ricky Carmichael's Career Championships

"RC" has won more major championships than anyone (15) and won more races (over 150!) than anyone, making him the winningest rider in both categories in AMA history.

3 - 125 National Motocross Championships (1997, 1998, 1999)

5 - Supercross Series Championships (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006)

7 - 250/450 National Motocross Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006)

Can you believe this guy? Over 150 wins? 5 Supercross Championships ... 10 National Championships?

When he first rode the Kawasaki in 97 - 99, his riding style was kinda' hang out near the end of the seat and 'GO!'. When he moved to the 250 class, it was somewhat different. When he went to Honda, his style seemed to change again ... remember so many people commenting about how down low his handlebars were on the CR 250 two-stroke? Then he got on the 450 four-stroke. His style changed again. Then when he went to Suzuki, his style became ... perfect. Of course, just my observations : ) It's very hard to even fully understand all the winning he did. Amazing. Every year he raced full time he won at least one championship - for ten years in a row!
