Eli Tomac – Broken Fibula, Out for Detroit
Yamaha have confirmed that Eli Tomac sustained a broken fibula, during the incident in the timed qualifying session in Tampa. The initial reports from the team and the Tomac camp, was a bruised calf and sprained ankle. It is remarkable that Eli managed to race inside Raymond James Stadium with a broken fibula, scoring championship points with his 17th place finish.
Eli said the following, in a press release from Yamaha –
“Unfortunately, this was more than an ankle sprain and a bruised calf. After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken Fibula. This is such a bummer as I’ve never felt better on the motorcycle in Supercross and getting a win at San Diego was great. I don’t have an exact timeframe of recovery at this time but will be working to come back as soon as possible.”
After winning his 53rd career 450SX main event at round 2, in San Diego, to now being sidelined for the foreseeable in an incident where he didn’t even fall off the motorcycle. The sport can be cruel at times, hopefully we see the #3 back on the gate as soon as possible.
