Hunter Lawrence and Cole Davies Go Back-to-Back at RedBud National
The RedBud National delivered a massive Fourth of July showdown as the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship continued with one of the most iconic stops on the schedule. With America celebrating its 250th Anniversary, a huge RedBud crowd was treated to changing track conditions, high-pressure championship battles, and a pair of repeat winners in both classes.
In the 450 Class, Hunter Lawrence put together another statement ride for Honda HRC Progressive, going 2-1 to earn his second straight overall victory and third win of the season. In the 250 Class, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies kept his breakout summer rolling with a 1-2 score to claim back-to-back overall wins.
More importantly, both championships saw a shift at the top. Hunter Lawrence moved back into the 450 points lead, while Jo Shimoda took control of the 250 standings after a strong 3-1 day.
450 Class: Hunter Lawrence Takes Control Late
The 450 Class opened with Jett Lawrence showing speed early. The defending champion topped qualifying and carried that momentum into Moto 1, where Jorge Prado grabbed the holeshot and led the Lawrence brothers in the early laps.
Jett eventually worked his way into the lead, while Hunter settled into second and began applying pressure late in the moto. Hunter closed the gap and briefly looked ready to steal the win, but a late tip-over while navigating traffic allowed Jett to retake control and finish the job.
Jett Lawrence won the opening moto, Hunter Lawrence finished second, and Prado held on for third. R.J. Hampshire and Garrett Marchbanks rounded out the top five.
Moto 2 became the race that defined the day.
Prado once again started strong and put himself out front early, while Haiden Deegan ran near the front and Jett Lawrence found himself in trouble after going down. Hunter Lawrence started outside the top five but quickly moved forward and eventually took over second.
At one point, Prado had built a lead of nearly 10 seconds. Hunter slowly began cutting into the gap, lap after lap, until the race tightened in the closing stages. With just minutes remaining, Hunter made the decisive move for the lead and quickly pulled away.
The second moto win gave Hunter the overall with 2-1 finishes, while Prado’s consistent 3-2 score earned him second overall. Jett Lawrence finished third overall with 1-5 motos after salvaging valuable points in Moto 2.

250 Class: Cole Davies Keeps the Momentum
The 250 Class has been one of the most unpredictable championships of the summer, but Cole Davies is quickly becoming one of its biggest stories. After earning his first career Pro Motocross win at the previous round, Davies came into RedBud with confidence and backed it up immediately.
Davies was fastest in qualifying and then put himself in position to win Moto 1. His Yamaha teammate Caden Dudney grabbed the early lead and controlled the opening stages, but Davies stayed close and kept the pressure on as the moto wore on.
Late in the race, Davies made his move and took over the lead, pulling away over the final laps to secure another moto victory. Jo Shimoda finished third, with Levi Kitchen and Casey Cochran completing the top five.
In Moto 2, Davies grabbed the early lead and looked like he might be on his way to another sweep. Shimoda had other plans.
The Honda HRC Progressive rider steadily worked through the front group, moved into second, and began closing the gap to Davies. With just a few minutes left, Shimoda made the pass for the lead and rode away to his first moto win of the summer.
Davies still finished second in the moto, which was enough to secure the overall win with 1-2 finishes. Shimoda’s 3-1 score gave him second overall, while Ryder DiFrancesco earned the first overall podium of his career with a 6-3 day.

RedBud Sets Up a Tight Championship Fight
RedBud always brings energy, but this year’s Independence Day race carried even more weight. Hunter Lawrence left Michigan with the 450 red plate, Jett Lawrence left looking to rebound, and Jorge Prado showed more signs that he is becoming a serious threat outdoors.
In the 250 Class, Davies has quickly become one of the hottest riders in the series, but Shimoda’s late Moto 2 charge proved that the championship is far from settled. With Shimoda, Davies, and Kitchen separated by only nine points, the 250 title fight is now wide open.
After a dramatic holiday weekend at RedBud, both classes head into the next round with new points leaders, tighter championship battles, and plenty of momentum still up for grabs.
