Round 3 – Anaheim 2
Round 3 – Anaheim 2
Round 3 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season returned to Angel Stadium in
Anaheim, California, and like the previous two rounds, we all were treated to an amazing
night of close racing! Let’s look at some interesting points that unfolded at both ends of the
results.
450SX -
Ken Roczen’s 2 nd place finish secured himself the red plate heading into next weekend’s
Triple Crown, in Glendale. This is the first time Roczen has held the red plate since 2022,
and the first time a Suzuki has held the red plate since 2015! Two podium finishes in the
opening three rounds is an even more impressive level of consistency considering the depth
of the field. No doubt the Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki is going to look pretty sick
in Glendale!
Monster Energy Kawaski’s Jason Anderson bounced back after a disappointing weekend in
San Diego. After struggling due to illness last weekend, Anderson started the night off great,
winning the second 450SX heat (which included Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton & Ken
Roczen!). In the main event, the 2018SX champion led eight laps and finished in 3 rd position.
Matching KR94, that makes it two podiums in three starts for Anderson to start in 2025! The
second Monster Energy Kawaski rider Jorge Prado’s day concluded early. A crash in the first
timed qualifying session left the Spainard with a dislocated shoulder, resulting in him being
sidelined for the evenings racing.
Factory Liqui Moly Beta Racing rider Benny Bloss secured himself a season best 12 th
position. Bloss came round on lap one in 20 th , although benefiting from some misfortune
from other incidents, he managed to work his way up to 12 th . 2025 marks his second year
upon the Beta 450RX machine and could have better finishes instore as the season
progresses. The second rider representing the Factory Liqui Moly Beta Racing team,
Mitchell Oldenburg, also finished in a season best 13 th . Oldenburg has a put-up solid result
throughout his long 250 career, and it is exciting to see him build on his first year riding the
Beta 450RX.
Jerry Robin tied a career best 18 th place finish at Anaheim 2! Riding for the McGinley Clinic
Privateer Support Program in 2025, Robin qualified to the main event from his heat, finishing
in 7 th place. Anaheim 2 marked the first main event Robin has qualified for this year. His last
being the penultimate round of the 2024 season, in Denver.
Partzilla PRMX Racing’s Cade Clason made his first main event of the season. Clason
qualified directly from his heat race, finishing in 9 th position, and went on to pick up a 19 th in
the main event. Although Clason has put up much better results in years past, it is hard to
expect much higher with how stacked and healthy the current field is. Like Robin, this was
Clason’s first main event since Denver last year.
Kevin Moranz continues to build on an impressive start to the 2025 season. Qualifying for
back-to-back main events this early in the season is a massive improvement compared to
last year. Moranz only qualified for two main events last season (Round 15 in Philadelphia
and Round 17 in Salt Lake City) and has already scored more points this season with his 21 st
and 20 th place finishes! The whole KMR/ Champion Tool Storage effort should be delighted
with their start to the 2025 season.
