World Supercross Cancels Remainder of 2026 Season After Just One Round
Share
The 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship has come to an unexpected end.
On October 7, World Supercross officially announced that the remainder of its 2026 season would be canceled, bringing the international championship to a close after just one completed round.
The decision eliminates the remaining events from what was originally planned as a six-round global series and leaves the future of World Supercross uncertain.
Organizers say discussions with potential investors are continuing, but there is currently no confirmed timeline for the championship's return.
World Supercross Confirms Immediate End to 2026 Season
In an official statement released October 7, World Supercross confirmed that its 2026 championship would conclude immediately.
The organization explained that it remains in advanced discussions with potential investors regarding the long-term future of the series.
While those discussions continue, organizers have decided not to proceed with the remaining championship rounds.
The announcement represents a significant setback for a series created to bring international stadium Supercross racing to major markets around the world.
World Supercross had planned to visit multiple continents in 2026, offering riders, teams and fans an international championship outside the traditional American racing calendar.
Instead, the season ended after its August opener in Canada.
Only One Round Was Completed
The championship opened August 8 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Three-time AMA Supercross champion Cooper Webb claimed the SX1 overall victory, while Max Anstie delivered the SX2 win.
Both riders represented Rick Ware Racing in the international championship.
The Calgary event featured competitive racing, although severe weather disrupted the SX1 Main Event. Strong winds and heavy rain forced officials to stop the final race, with the overall victory determined by the completed sprint races.
What was intended to be the opening round of a six-event championship ultimately became the only completed World Supercross event of 2026.
Five Planned Rounds Will Not Take Place
The original 2026 World Supercross calendar included six international events.
Following the completed Canadian Grand Prix, the championship had planned additional rounds in:
- Birmingham, England: British Grand Prix, originally scheduled for October 10.
- Buenos Aires, Argentina: Buenos Aires City Grand Prix.
- South Africa: South African Grand Prix, with the final venue and date still to be confirmed.
- Gold Coast, Australia: Australian Grand Prix, originally scheduled for November 21.
- Christchurch, New Zealand: New Zealand Grand Prix, originally scheduled for December 5.
None of those remaining events will take place as part of the 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship.
The October announcement followed an earlier warning sign when organizers canceled the British Grand Prix in September.
At the time, SX Global, the championship's commercial and promotional rights holder, explained that additional time was needed to complete discussions over significant new investment.
The cancellation was initially presented as an operational measure intended to support the series' long-term future.
Less than three weeks later, the remainder of the championship was canceled.
Financial Investment Talks Remain Central to the Series' Future
The cancellation comes as SX Global continues pursuing investment intended to strengthen World Supercross and support future operations.
The organization has not publicly confirmed a new investor, a completed financing agreement or a timetable for the series to resume.
Its October announcement expressed optimism about ongoing discussions, but did not provide specific commitments for another season.
The distinction is important.
The 2026 season has officially ended, but World Supercross has not announced that the championship is permanently shutting down.
Whether the series returns in 2027 or beyond remains an open question.
For riders and teams, the situation creates uncertainty around future international racing opportunities. For fans and event partners, it raises questions about when the championship might return to their markets.
What Happens to Tickets for Canceled Events?
Fans who purchased tickets for canceled World Supercross rounds should consult the official event organizer and the ticketing company used for their purchase.
When the British Grand Prix was canceled in September, SX Global announced that Ticketmaster would automatically process refunds to the original payment method, with an expected timeframe of 14–21 days.
However, the October 7 championship-wide cancellation statement did not provide equivalent refund instructions covering every affected international event.
Fans with tickets for Australia, Argentina, South Africa or New Zealand should check their event provider's latest official communications rather than assume the British event's refund procedure applies everywhere.
Ticket holders should also be cautious about outdated event listings and purchase links that may remain visible online.
Does This Affect AMA Supercross or Australian Supercross?
No. The canceled World Supercross championship is a separate racing series.
The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and the American SuperMotocross World Championship operate independently of World Supercross.
The 2027 AMA Supercross season remains scheduled to begin January 9 in Anaheim, California.
The Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) is also separate from the canceled World Supercross series.
That distinction is especially relevant for fans following Ken Roczen and Justin Barcia, who have been confirmed for the November 7 AUSX Open at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, Australia.
The World Supercross cancellation does not cancel that Australian Supercross event.
What's Next for World Supercross?
The future of World Supercross now depends on developments beyond the racetrack.
The championship began in 2022 with ambitions to establish an international Supercross platform, bringing major stadium racing to audiences across different countries.
Although the series has attracted established riders and manufacturers, the premature conclusion of its 2026 season raises questions about how the championship can achieve a sustainable long-term future.
For now, there is no confirmed restart date or officially announced 2027 calendar.
Fans will have to await further information from SX Global and World Supercross regarding investment negotiations and the championship's future.
What is certain is that the 2026 World Supercross season is over after one round. What happens next remains to be decided.
